Smoking Cessation For Pregnancy And Beyond: A Virtual Clinic

< Back to All Resources

Dr. Sharon Phelan is your host and mentor as you counsel and assist three sets of simulated patients to quit smoking. The learner will be able to apply principles of the 5 A's intervention, a best practice approach for smoking cessation, which reflects current clinical recommendations from the US Public Health Service Guidelines for Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence 2008 update and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Committee Opinion No. 471: Smoking Cessation During Pregnancy. The interactive cases provide the learner an opportunity to explore the broader psychosocial dimension of cessation counseling, learn motivational interviewing techniques, and implement optimal and efficient office systems to support smoking cessation counseling and documentation.
